چکیده

Both analysis and numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the relationship between Young’s modulus and nonideally sharp indentation parameters. The results confirm that there exists an approximate one-to-one correspondence between the ratio of nominal hardness/reduced Young’s modulus (Hn/Er) and the ratio of elastic work/total work (We/W) for any definite bluntness ratio ( h/hm) of a nonideally sharp indenter. Based on this relationship, the Young’s modulus of the indented material can be determined just from the values of Hn, We, and W, which are directly measurable quantities in an indentation test.

Computational Modeling of the Forward and Reverse Problems in Instrumented Sharp Indentation

A comprehensive computational study was undertaken to identify the extent to which elastoplastic properties of ductile materials could be determined from instrumented sharp indentation and to quantify the sensitivity of such extracted properties to variations in the measured indentation data. Large deformation finite element computations were carried out for 76 different combinations of elasto-...

Determination of Elastoplastic Properties by Instrumented Sharp Indentation

Instrumented indentation methods, which provide a continuous record of the variation of indentation load, P, as a function of the depth of penetration, h, into the indented specimen, have been the topics of considerable attention in recent years. Such interest can be attributed to the following possible applications of the methods. (1) Properties such as Young’s modulus, yield strength, and str...

Depth - sensing instrumented indentation with dual sharp

57 A methodology for interpreting instrumented sharp indentation with dual sharp indenters with different tip apex 58 angles is presented by recourse to computational modeling within the context of finite element analysis. The forward 59 problem predicts an indentation response from a given set of elasto-plastic properties, whereas the reverse analysis 60 seeks to extract elasto-plastic propert...

On the relationship between indentation hardness and modulus, and the damage resistance of biological materials.

The remarkable mechanical performance of biological materials is based on intricate structure-function relationships. Nanoindentation has become the primary tool for characterising biological materials, as it allows to relate structural changes to variations in mechanical properties on small scales. However, the respective theoretical background and associated interpretation of the parameters m...
